Exhaust standard vs XPIPE

Hi All,

 

I have a 2011 2.9 with the single exhaust port, and I was thinking of changing the exhaust tip at the rear for cross piped dual exhausts, mostly for a change up.
I'm not interested in the so called 'extra 8bhp', rather just fancy a change and an excuse to get spanners out on those probably rusty as hell bolts. :)

So - has any one done this:

Assuming this will slightly change the sound - subjectively is this noticeable and better/worse?

Seem to vary in cost from £300 to £900 - what did you go for and why?

Cheaper is better here.  I see no benefit to spending more money other than an inflated profit margin for the manufacturer (Fabspeed, for example).  The X pipe is such a simple design.  It is supposed to give a more polished flat 6 sound than a straight exit.

 

I would also recommend a local exhaust specialist, as they may have X pipes on the shelf at competitive prices.

According to the guys at Carnewal. The T tailpipes give a better sound. If you can get a 981 S standard  exhaust tip, it's the best. Something to do with the gasses hiting together at the tail pipes.

I had the the OEM TT dual tailpipes installed when I had my Carnewal GT exhaust fitted by Gert himself, it not only sounds amazing but looks far better than the single pipe, to my eyes anyway!   Not cheap mind!

Obviously depends what you  mean by better, but I have put a Milltek on my equal length manifold DFI car and it has completely removed the howl of the exhaust. To be fair I did pick the resonated Milltek, but it has separate exit pipes (as in, each exit pipe is fed individually from the respective silencers).

 

I am going back to PSE soon, will just have to come up with a method that makes "valves closed" mode a bit more palatable. Probably have to open the silencers up and slightly (but not too much) liberate the quiet mode.

I have the non resonated miltek and it sounds fantastic and definitely still has the howl (3.4 dfi)I test drove mine and one with the pse back to back and much preferred the sound from the miltek. Valves closed on the pse was v quiet. Open was better but still quieter than the miltek when giving it some.  And I would also say normal driving around the miltek isn’t intrusive or loud at all and doesn’t drone on the motorway. A lot of this is all going to be down to personal choice though.
